Lily of the Nile (Agapanthum Peter Pan)

Originally from South Africa, these varieties of plants make a happy home in San Francisco landscapes. They combine well with other plants, and attract butterflies. During the warmer spring and summer months, it’s important to keep your Agapanthus plants’ soil moist. As fall arrives, reduce watering but make sure they’re still hydrated – in wintertime stick with near dryness.

Where They Do Well:

This dwarf variety of the Agapanthus family is happy to live in a garden bed among other flowers and plants. Pruning plants is essential for their overall health – giving them a light trim will help keep them looking lush and healthy, but if your greenery becomes too crowded with growth it may be necessary to perform some more vigorous pruning to make sure each plant has enough room.

Maintenance:

These might be the easiest plants to maintain. To help them reach their peak health while actively growing or blooming, nourish these beauties every month using a ½ strength dose of water-soluble 15-30-15 fertilizer for an extra boost! They’re happy with little to full sunlight, and regular to very little water. Just keep the snails away!
