Design History and Approach

Paul Tamate, owner of Tamate Landscaping, has over 25 years in creating custom Asian-inspired residential outdoor living spaces. A native of the Bay Area, Paul has been designing garden landscapes here since 1987. He began learning the art of Japanese landscaping at the age of 10, helping his father on landscaping projects before starting his own company over 25 years ago.

Paul’s interest and knowledge in Asian landscapes has been shaped by numerous trips to Japan and other Asian countries and extensive study of Asian landscape architecture and design. He has masterfully tailored Asian aesthetics to the realities of the Bay Area. Paul’s diverse skillset is unmatched in the industry. Using his knowledge of sustainable plants, stone, and wood to develop his unique approach to landscape design. His landscapes reflect the natural beauty of California along with his travels to Asia, offering clients finely crafted landscapes that reflect their personal style and taste.

Attention to Detail

Paul’s committed work ethic, attention to detail, and deep, longstanding knowledge of his craft ensures that your landscape will be thoughtfully designed and expertly executed. From design to completion, he will meet with you, design your landscape, hand-pick materials, and lead his small crew in the building stage. He takes pride in his work and is dedicated to providing his clients with the best possible service. The end result will be a beautiful usable outdoor living space where you can relax, enjoy, and recharge your spirit.

Contractor State License

Paul has a deep understanding of the San Francisco building codes and is able to work with architects, engineers as well landscaping planners. Paul has been licensed since December 1988 and holds Landscape C27, General B, and Sheet Metal C43 California state licenses under license number 551694. In addition to his landscape contractors license, Paul’s general builders license has enabled him to execute many more intricate projects including complex decks, retaining walls, concrete and steel reinforcement work, while working with San Francisco building inspectors, landscape architects, and structural engineers.

As more than a 100 satisfied clients will testify, Paul knows his craft from the ground up. Tamate Landscaping designs and installs custom Asian-inspired landscapes that will transform your San Francisco yard into a peaceful oasis.
